Driveway FAQs

  • Do I need planning permission for a driveway?

In most cases, no. You only need planning permission if your driveway won’t drain naturally or through a proper drainage system. We install permeable surfaces or integrated drainage to make sure you stay compliant.

  • Which surface lasts longest?

Block paving and resin typically last 20-30 years when installed correctly. Tarmac and gravel can last 15-20 years with proper maintenance.

  • What’s the cheapest option?

Gravel is usually the most affordable, followed by tarmac. Resin and block paving are more premium, but they add more value to your property.

  • How soon can I drive on my new driveway?

    Gravel: immediately.

    Tarmac: usually after 2-3 days.

Block paving and resin: typically 24-48 hours.

Patio & Paving FAQs

  • Do patios need planning permission?

Not usually. Most garden patios are classed as permitted development unless you live in a listed property or conservation area

  • Should I seal my patio?

Sealing is optional. It helps reduce staining and can enhance colour, especially for natural stone. Porcelain does not require sealing.

  • What’s the lowest maintenance patio surface?

Porcelain is the easiest to look after as it’s non-porous and stain-resistant. Block paving and stone need occasional cleaning and re-sanding.

  • How long do patios last?

20-30 years or more with correct installation.
